Strategic Partnership between Schools Only
The globalization of the developing Europe is a process in which the international cultural education has become essential in early childhood. Ethnic, cultural and linguistic tolerance must be brought to people still in their childhood, as later it becomes harder and harder, especially for those living in border areas, along with migrants and immigrants. Learning and knowing more international traditions, customs, culture and lifestyle, behavioural habits is becoming more important for an inter-cultural dialogue and the ethnic understanding in our society.
There is no better time to discover the variety and diversity of ethnic groups and their cultures and to educate tolerance. In order to promote their development in this area, we need to give children the opportunity to be "explorers".
This is the very meaning of this project – to allow the children, through the newly created game methodology to find in the traditions and the modern way of life what is the common and the different in every ethnos and nationality, which they are in contact within the kindergarten and the school. For the success of the project, many parents will be sought and drawn from other countries or mixed families, who are carriers of language and culture, different from the official in the country. We will seek for children and families who do not live in their home countries at the moment but in a partner-country of the project. as they have to accept the traditions of the host – country without the loss of their own identity. The project foresees to exchange songs and dances, pictures of traditional clothing, foods, customs and other information, which will be implemented in the game methodology. The project offers the opportunity of sustainability as the game may be complemented and developed as newer participants can join at a later stage after the formal end of the project.
If we know the traditions, customs and ethnic features globally, since childhood, we will avoid differences, subjective and negative attitude of people towards each other. Knowing the diversity of the social world around, children will grow to be Europeans with a broader worldview. In that way, they will become Europeans who believe that people are equal, regardless of their origin, faith, religion or nationality.
Studying about different customs, traditions and cultures in a country cannot be complete in an enclosed environment so, an internationally run project will bring reliable and true information about the object of study. As the project aims at exchanging of good practices, the experience that teachers will acquire in each of the countries involved in the project will result in developing innovative teaching methodology.
Multicultural skills are important in a cosmopolitan society. On the other hand, the Internet offers the opportunity to use open educational resources/games, songs, dances etc./ which can be very interesting to young children and they also let them acquire new knowledge in an easier way as presumably this type of knowledge is difficult to be understood by young children.
The Bulgarian teachers’ experience on previous projects / Polyglot, Forgotten Street Games/ as well as the partners’ ones in their schools and kindergartens shows that the most popular OER are most often used for foreign language teaching. There are only a few OER which are known by teachers and are suitable for young children to be taught civic education at the primary and pre-primary levels. The main aim of the current project is to exchange good practices between the partner-countries in the field of using the OER and developing a methodological guidebook for teachers, comprising a game-book for children (electronic and paper body which goes with flash cards, toys and whiteboard resources).
After creating the basic idea of the project with “EU project partnership meeting point” and E-twinning live, we placed our intentions. Partners from different countries were interested in the project idea and expressed their desire to work together with us. After a rigorous selection we limited them according to certain criteria:
- The project partners are kindergartens or elementary schools,
- All partners are interested in developing new methodological ideas and sharing of best practices for the development of international cultural and social development of children,
- Three of the partners: the kindergarten from Lithuania, the primary school from Poland, and the kindergarten from Hungary have not participated in international projects during the last three years, but they have certain experience at Nationally run projects. However, the teachers from these institutions, including the Bulgarian team, have got experience in project work.
The tasks and responsibilities are distributed fairly so that each partner will equally contribute to the implementation of the final result. Each country provides the others with materials about their own nationality, culture and historical notes and will also help with ideas and implementation of the questionnaires on the impact of the new methodology.
